Celebrating Great-Grammy's 90th Birthday

January 19, 2017 Kirsten Nelson

Dylan's great-grammy Doris is turning 90 this month and I wanted to give her something unique for her birthday. A family member put together a fun 'card drive' by requesting that all of Doris's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren send her a card for her birthday. Since Dylan can't make her own card, I thought it would be fun to take a cute photo instead!

I dressed Dylan up as an old lady and took a bunch of photos, hoping that one would be good enough to make a card out of. It was an easy way to make a funny and memorable birthday card.

To make your own little old lady costume, you will need:

  • Floral print dress (similar here)
  • Cardigan (similar here)
  • Tights (similar here)
  • White hat
  • Sunglasses
  • White mardi gras beads
  • White pom poms
  • Hot glue gun

To make the wig:
1. Working around the hat in rows, use your hot glue gun to glue the pom poms onto the hat
2. Place the hat onto your baby's head to make sure there are no gaps in between the pom poms

To make the glasses:
1. Pop the lenses out of the baby sunglasses
2. Cut the mardi gras necklace in half
3. Hot glue the ends of the necklace to the glasses, right in front of where the ears are.

NOTE: the mardi gras beads are definitely a choking hazard and you will want to supervise your child when they are wearing them. Dylan was a little too interested in the beads, so I only kept them on her long enough to take a couple of pictures.
